Frequently Asked Question Posted 06/27/2026

The clap sound and the on-screen clapper sticks don't line up — the audio is off by a few frames. How do I get the sticks and the sound to stay in sync?

A few setup tips will keep the on-screen sticks and the clap/beep audio tightly in sync:

  1. Close other background apps that you don't need. Background activity can introduce audio timing delays.
  2. Check your pre-roll settings make sense. Go to Settings > Behavior > Pre-Roll (At Shot Start). For example, if you have 3 pre-roll beeps set with a 1-second interval but your Delay/Pre-roll is set to 2 seconds, that mismatch can cause issues, because iOS has to play the whole queue of beeps and the clap sound.
  3. Use only built-in audio or audio cabled from the 3.5mm port. Sending the audio over Bluetooth will almost always cause sync problems with the on-screen sticks, because Bluetooth introduces latency.

It's also a good idea to keep iOS reasonably current. MovieSlate generally supports the current and previous iOS/iPadOS releases, since our third-party timecode libraries (Tentacle, RED, Atomos, etc.) require up-to-date system support.
