Frequently Asked Question Posted 06/03/2026

MovieSlate crashes every time I try to open it and I haven't backed up to MovieSlate Cloud. I need to reinstall the app, but I don't want to lose all my logging data. How do I save my data first?

Do not delete the MovieSlate app yet. Deleting the app before making a backup will erase all data that hasn't been saved to MovieSlate Cloud or iCloud.
Here are your options, in order of preference:
Option 1 — Back up using iCloud (safest if you haven't used MSCloud)

  1. Open the iOS Settings app and go to [Your Name] > iCloud > iCloud Backup.
  2. Tap Back Up Now and wait for the backup to complete (this may take several minutes).
  3. Once backed up, you can restore your iPad from that iCloud backup. Note that restoring from iCloud Backup resets the iPad to factory settings and then downloads the backup — the process can take an hour or more depending on how much data you have stored.
  4. After restoring, reinstall MovieSlate and your logging data should be present. Go to Settings > MovieSlate Store and tap Restore Purchases to reactivate your subscriptions.

Option 2 — Use MovieSlate Cloud (if you had an MSCloud account)
If you previously made an MSCloud backup, even an old one, your data is already safe. You can delete and reinstall the app, then sign in to MSCloud and restore your data from there.
Important: If you delete MovieSlate before completing an iCloud Backup, MovieSlate's local data will not be in the iCloud Backup. Only proceed with deletion if you are comfortable starting from your last MSCloud backup.
