Frequently Asked Question

When I type a long shot description in History (the Frame A and Frame B fields), the text keeps shrinking until it's too small to read. Is there a way to keep it full-size or pop open a bigger editor?
Starting with version 26.0, MovieSlate lets you choose how each text field behaves while you type into it, so long entries no longer shrink down to an unreadable size. This works in most screens that use the on-screen keyboard, including History and Script Dept logging and breakdowns. When you tap into a text field that uses the Keyboard input style, a small gear button appears at the left edge of the field (and at the top-right of the Larger Editor). Tap it to choose an Editing Style: [Screenshot: the gear button and the Editing Style menu] - Normal — Text shrinks to fit the box. Best for short entries. This is the default.
- Full-Size Text — Text stays at a comfortable, readable size and scrolls along like a ticker as you type, instead of shrinking.
- Larger Editor — A roomy editing panel floats up above the keyboard so you can read and write the whole description at once. When you finish, it tucks away and your text is saved back into the field.
A few things worth knowing:- It's per-field and remembered. Set the style once for a given field and MovieSlate remembers it for that field. Different fields can use different styles.
- It's a personal preference on your device. The setting lives on your own iPad and isn't synced to teammates, so it won't change how MovieSlate behaves for anyone else.
- It adapts to available space. If your MovieSlate window is too small for the Larger editor (for example, a narrow split-screen), it temporarily falls back to the full-size scrolling style, then returns to the larger editor when there's room again.
- It applies to free-typing fields only. Fields that expect a specific format (scene/take, numbers, dates) keep their special keypads. You can also reach these styles after tapping the ABC button on Menu/Snippets fields (but not after the Keypad's ABC button).
To set a field's input style to Keyboard, go to Settings > Text Fields. |
