Frequently Asked Question Posted 06/16/2026

When I bring my MovieSlate markers into Avid Media Composer, every scene's locators start at 00:00:00 instead of the actual timecode we filmed, and post says they don't match. How do I get the true timecode into the markers?

This is by design in Avid's Locator format, not a bug in your export. Avid Locators store a time that is relative to the start of the clip they're attached to — an offset from 00:00:00 — rather than an absolute timecode. So when a new clip begins, its locators naturally count up from zero.
A couple of related points worth knowing:

  • Avid Locators also do not support durations, so you won't get the IN/OUT range from a MovieSlate note in a locator.
  • The actual timecode you logged is preserved — it lives in your MovieSlate notes and in the ALE and CSV exports. If post needs to match against real timecode, the ALE/CSV is the reliable source.

If your workflow specifically needs the real timecode reflected in the locator text itself, let us know at Help > Contact Us — we can look at whether an option to use the logged timecode (instead of the relative offset) makes sense for a future update.
