Frequently Asked Question
Posted 06/16/2026
I'm an AC working mostly with the Alexa 35. The MovieSlate documentation and a demo video show the app controlling an ARRI Alexa. Does that camera-control feature work with the Alexa 35?
No — MovieSlate does not support camera control or timecode sync with the ARRI Alexa 35. Here's the history behind the documentation and demo video you saw: MovieSlate once offered camera control and TC sync for the original ARRI Alexa and Alexa XT (circa 2013) by way of Timecode Systems' Pulse smart hub. After those models, ARRI changed the camera connection protocol, and Timecode Systems discontinued the Pulse product soon after. That older ARRI integration is what the demo video reflects; it does not extend to newer ARRI cameras like the Alexa 35. Currently, the only camera control MovieSlate supports is for RED cameras: - RED DSMCv1 cameras via the REDLink hardware module
- RED DSMCv2 cameras using their built-in REDLink feature
RED has told us their DSMCv3 cameras will require an entirely new connection method that may not be made available to third-party apps like MovieSlate. For an Alexa 35 workflow you can still use MovieSlate as a slate and for logging, and jam-sync timecode visually, but direct camera control isn't available. |
