Frequently Asked Questions

We know you have them, here are answers to the common ones.

Frequently Asked Question Posted 06/09/2026

Two of us are co-logging on separate iPads using App-to-App sync. We both saw the "Choose Remote Control" option, and our shots aren't advancing the way they did before. Who is supposed to pick whom, and what controls this?

When two iPads are co-logging, one person starts and stops the shots and the other follows along. Getting this set up correctly comes down to two settings.
1. Who chooses the remote control host?
The logger who is not starting and stopping shots is the one who taps Choose Remote Control and selects the other person's iPad as the host. For example, if your colleague is starting/stopping the takes, then you choose your colleague's iPad as your remote control host.
2. Why do we both see each other as options?
Both iPads appear as available remote-control hosts when both have hosting turned on. This is controlled in Settings > TextField Data Sync & Remote Control > Remote Control Hosting. If you set one iPad's Remote Control Hosting to Never Allow, that iPad will no longer appear as a host option on the other device — which makes it clear who is hosting and who is following.
3. Why aren't my shots advancing?
If the person hosting is starting and stopping shots, the following iPad needs to be subscribed to the Shot Start and Shot End Notifications. If those notifications aren't enabled, your shots won't advance automatically even though the two iPads are connected. Check that both notifications are turned on in the same Data Sync & Remote Control settings.
As a general best practice, both loggers should be on the same version of MovieSlate when possible to avoid behavior differences during a session.
