Frequently Asked Question Posted 06/03/2026

I see a Lap button on the stopwatch and a setting called Auto-Save Performance Laps. What does this feature do, and how do I use it?

The Lap button lets you mark timing splits within a single take — useful for tracking performance sections, music playback cues, or any moment you want to timestamp without ending the take.
How it works:

  • While a take is running, tap the Lap button to record a split time. Each tap creates a new lap entry timestamped to that moment in the take.
  • Laps are labeled sequentially (Lap 1, Lap 2, Lap 3…) and are saved to the take note for that take.

Auto-Save Performance Laps is a setting that controls whether a performance note is automatically created for a take. To enable it:
  1. Go to Settings > Stopwatch (or the relevant section in MovieSlate Settings).
  2. Toggle on Auto-Save Performance Laps.

When this setting is on, MovieSlate will automatically save any laps you recorded to the take's performance note when you end the take. If you don't tap the Lap button during a take, no performance note is created — the setting only kicks in when you actually use the Lap button.
When this setting is off, you can still use the Lap button but you'll need to manually save or note the lap data.
