Frequently Asked Questions

We know you have them, here are answers to the common ones.

Frequently Asked Question Posted 05/26/2026

I accidentally logged all my episodes under one project and now my production needs them separated into individual projects. Is there a way to split them without losing my logged data?

Yes, you can split a combined project into separate episode projects using the Clone a Project feature. Before doing anything, make a MovieSlate Cloud backup as a safety net.
Here's how to split one project into multiple episodes:

  1. Tap the project name at the top of the screen to open the Project panel.
  2. Tap Clone a Project and select your existing combined project. This creates an exact duplicate.
  3. Tap into the new clone and use Edit Project to update the Production name, Episode field, and any other project-level metadata for that episode. Tap Done.
  4. If you use Script Dept, update the Script Dept tab fields (Pages, Scenes, Runtime, etc.) to reflect just that episode's values.
  5. Open the History Log for that clone and delete all the takes that belong to the other episodes.
  6. Repeat steps 2–5 for each additional episode until every clone contains only its own episode's shots.

Note: MovieSlate allows the same script PDF to be shared across multiple projects, so you do not need to re-import it for each clone.
If you're also using a Breakdown, you'll need to edit that separately for each cloned project to reflect the correct episode's breakdown data.
