Frequently Asked Question Posted 06/11/2026

I used to sync timecode wirelessly with a Timecode Buddy, but it's no longer being made. What wireless timecode devices does MovieSlate support now?

The Timecode Buddy synced timecode with MovieSlate over WiFi, but it is no longer in production, so it's no longer a path we can recommend for new setups.
For wireless timecode today, MovieSlate works best with Bluetooth timecode devices:

  • Tentacle Sync E / Track E
  • Atomos UltraSync Blue

Both of these sync over Bluetooth rather than WiFi (the way the Timecode Buddy did). Each device can sync with up to 8 devices over Bluetooth, and the units can also sync to one another — for example, Tentacle Sync units can jam to each other and then also feed timecode to the app.
One important limitation to keep in mind: iOS does not permit third-party apps like MovieSlate to set or alter the device's system clock. MovieSlate reads incoming timecode and displays/logs it, but it can't reprogram the iPhone or iPad's hardware clock.
Wireless (and wired) hardware timecode sync requires MovieSlate's Pro Features. You can review the supported wireless timecode hardware on the website's Timecode Sync and Bluetooth Timecode pages.
