Frequently Asked Question Posted 06/10/2026

Can MovieSlate's sync function send timecode over Bluetooth to a slate like the BETSO WTCS-1, so the app acts as the timecode source instead of a separate TX/RX box?

Yes, with the BETSO WTCS-1. The BETSO slate uses a syncing protocol that we designed, rather than the proprietary libraries that Tentacle and Atomos license to us, and it is designed to display data from MovieSlate. The BETSO is itself the Tx/Rx device, so it can act as the timecode source or use MovieSlate's timecode as its source — no separate TX/RX box is required.
This is different from the other Bluetooth devices MovieSlate supports. With a Tentacle Sync E / Track E, an Atomos UltraSync Blue, or an Atomos AtomX, MovieSlate can receive timecode but cannot set the timecode on the device, because those vendors don't allow third-party apps to change their devices' timecode — you'd have to use their own apps for that.

Music video / playback workflows

Because Tentacle and Atomos devices won't let MovieSlate set their timecode, syncing them in MovieSlate's Music Video mode isn't possible. As an alternative, if you have a wireless microphone system that accepts audio input from the iOS device's headphone port, you can use it to wirelessly send timecode: mix your music track to mono on one channel, set MovieSlate to send LTC timecode on the other channel, and use a channel splitter to route the music to your speaker and the LTC channel to your wireless mic transmitter. Your receiving equipment must handle the timecode resetting when you start and stop playback.
