I'm thinking about buying a Deity TC-SL1 smart slate. Will it sync with MovieSlate 8, and will the clapper sticks closing on the Deity trigger a new shot in MovieSlate?

You can use a Deity TC-SL1 with MovieSlate, but only over a wired LTC connection — not over Bluetooth.
The TC-SL1 has a 1/4" TRS output, so you can feed its LTC timecode signal into your iPad or iPhone using the appropriate cable and port adapter, then jam-sync or continuously sync MovieSlate's timecode (a Pro Features subscription is required for timecode sync). A few important limitations:

• The TC-SL1 does not sync with MovieSlate over Bluetooth. As far as we're aware, Deity only supports Bluetooth syncing with their own TC-1 devices and their Sidus Audio app, not third-party apps like MovieSlate.
• The clapper sticks closing on the Deity slate will not trigger a new shot in MovieSlate.
