My new iPad doesn't have a headphone jack. How do I connect a timecode cable for LTC sync using USB-C?
Newer iPads use USB-C instead of a 3.5mm headphone jack, so you'll need a USB-C to 3.5mm audio adapter to connect a wired LTC timecode source. Important: Not all USB-C audio adapters work correctly for timecode sync. The adapter must pass audio input (microphone-level signal) — many cheap adapters are output-only (for headphones). Additionally, some adapters use a DAC that does not correctly route the microphone input channel, which MovieSlate requires to receive LTC. We recommend using adapters from our tested list on the Timecode Cables page. If your adapter seems to receive no signal, try these steps: - Go to Settings > Timecode + Sync > Test Wired Microphone Input and check for signal on the level meter.
- Make sure MovieSlate has microphone permission: iOS Settings > Privacy & Security > Microphone — MovieSlate should be toggled on.
- Force-close and relaunch MovieSlate after granting microphone permission.
- If signal is very low, the adapter may be attenuating the LTC signal too much — try a different adapter from the recommended list.
A standard mono 3.5mm cable (TRS) from your timecode source to a compatible USB-C adapter is the most reliable configuration. |
