Does MovieSlate's Wi-Fi recorder sync work with my Sound Devices MixPre-10 II or Scorpio? Which Sound Devices mixer/recorders are actually supported?

MovieSlate's Wi-Fi recorder sync works with a specific, limited set of Sound Devices mixer/recorders:

  • Sound Devices 633
  • Sound Devices 664
  • Sound Devices 688

It is not compatible with other Sound Devices products, including the MixPre-10 II and the Scorpio.
Wi-Fi recorder sync also requires a Timecode Systems Wave or Pulse hub. The recorder alone cannot talk to MovieSlate.

How the connection works

  1. The Wave or Pulse connects by cable to the 633, 664, or 688.
  2. The Wave/Pulse broadcasts a Wi-Fi signal.
  3. MovieSlate joins that Wi-Fi network.
  4. The Wave/Pulse acts as the communication bridge, translating between the recorder and MovieSlate.

If you have a MixPre-10 II, Scorpio, or another recorder


You can still sync timecode. With Pro Features enabled, MovieSlate reads LTC timecode from any recorder that has a timecode output (TC OUT) — run a cable from the recorder's TC OUT to the iPad's audio input. This gives you timecode sync and RecRun start/stop logging, but not the metadata bridge that the Wave/Pulse provides.
Note that the Wave and Pulse hubs and their companion Sound Devices recorders are legacy hardware. MovieSlate continues to support them for existing users, but no additional Sound Devices models are planned.
