Frequently Asked Questions

We know you have them, here are answers to the common ones.

Frequently Asked Question Posted 08/27/2026

When I tried to send a Bug Report with Data from MovieSlate, I got an error saying "A server with the specified hostname could not be found." What does that mean, and how do I get my report through?

That message is an iOS/iPadOS networking error, not a MovieSlate crash or a problem with your project data. It means your device couldn't reach the server it was trying to contact at that moment. In almost every case it is temporary and a second attempt goes through.
What to do:

  1. Simply try again. Wait a few seconds and tap Send once more. Brief DNS or connectivity hiccups are the most common cause, and a retry usually succeeds.
  2. Check your connection. Open Safari and load any web page. If nothing loads, your iPad is offline — reconnect to Wi-Fi or enable cellular data and try again.
  3. Toggle Airplane Mode. Turn Airplane Mode on, wait five seconds, then turn it off. This forces the device to re-establish its network connection and refresh DNS.
  4. Turn off any VPN or content blocker. VPNs, ad blockers, and DNS-filtering profiles can prevent the device from resolving hostnames. Disable them temporarily and resend.
  5. Try a different network. Studio, production office, and hotel Wi-Fi networks sometimes block or intercept outbound traffic. Switching to a personal hotspot is a fast way to rule this out.

If it still fails after several tries: force-close MovieSlate (swipe up from the bottom of the screen and swipe the app away in the App Switcher), reopen it, and send the report again. If you continue to see the error, email support@pureblendsoftware.com directly and describe what you were doing when the problem occurred — we can work with you from there.
Your data is safe. A failed send does not affect your project, takes, script pages, or annotations. Nothing is lost when this error appears.
