Frequently Asked Questions

We know you have them, here are answers to the common ones.

Frequently Asked Question Posted 06/24/2026

When I press Start Shot from the History tab, the button doesn't turn red and the shot gets recorded under the MovieSlate icon instead of in Script Dept. How do I make sure my shots are logged as Script Dept shots?

By default, a shot is owned by whichever tab you start it from, so a shot started outside Script Dept gets filed under the MovieSlate slate. To make every new shot a Script Dept shot no matter where you start it, turn on the Script Owns New Shots setting:

  1. Go to Settings > Script Dept > Data Logging.
  2. Turn on Script Owns New Shots.

With this enabled, a shot you start from any tab — History, Sound Dept, Reality MultiCam, and so on — is treated as a Script Dept shot and shows up correctly in your Script Dept history and reports.
Note that the History tab is for reviewing and cloning existing shots rather than starting brand-new ones; if you want to begin a fresh shot, the normal Start Shot control will create it, and with Script Owns New Shots on it will belong to Script Dept.
