Frequently Asked Question Posted 06/12/2026

I'm using MovieSlate's Multicam tab with my RED camera. When the DP starts rolling, MovieSlate starts a shot fine, but when he stops the camera MovieSlate thinks it's still rolling and won't stop the shot. What's going wrong?

This almost always comes down to the WiFi connection between your iPad and the camera. If your iPad silently rejoins a different network — your studio or office WiFi, for example — MovieSlate can still start a shot but never receives the camera's stop signal, so the shot appears to keep recording.
To fix it:

  1. Open the iOS Settings app and check Wi-Fi. Make sure the iPad is joined to your camera's network (or pointed at the camera's IP address) and has not reconnected to your house/office WiFi.
  2. Reconnect MovieSlate to the camera's IP address in the Multicam tab's connection settings.
  3. If start/stop is still mis-firing, turn off Start a Multicam shot and Stop a Multicam shot in the Multicam options so the camera's roll state no longer drives MovieSlate automatically.

Once the iPad is back on the camera's network these controls behave normally. To keep it from happening again, tell iOS to Forget nearby auto-join networks (or disable Auto-Join for them) so the iPad stays locked to the camera while you shoot.
