Frequently Asked Question Posted 06/10/2026

I imported another script supervisor's lined pages into MovieSlate, but when I updated to the latest script revision her lining/markup didn't appear on the new pages. Is that normal?

If the script revisions are standard PDF files, any lining or ink markup should come through on import — unless the application that created the PDF didn't actually export the markup with the pages.
The quickest way to find out is to open the script PDF in Adobe Acrobat or another PDF viewer:

  • If the markup is not visible in Acrobat either, then the other supervisor's application either doesn't support exporting the ink/lining, or it has a setting controlling that which was turned off when the PDF was created. The fix is on the exporting side — the markup needs to be flattened or exported into the PDF.
  • If you do see the markup in Acrobat but not in MovieSlate, send us that PDF file and we'll investigate. There may be an "invisible ink" attribute on the annotations that we can detect and force to display on import.

Note that this is different from sharing a lined script directly between two MovieSlate users; the issue here is specifically how the markup was saved into the PDF by a third-party app.
