Frequently Asked Question Posted 05/26/2026

My newer iPad only has a USB-C port — no headphone jack. Which adapters have been tested and confirmed to work for connecting an LTC timecode cable to MovieSlate?

Not all USB-C to 3.5mm adapters pass through the microphone input, and some may lack the additional circuitry required by Apple's Made for iPhone (MFi) program. PureBlend has purchased and tested approximately a dozen adapters; the following three are confirmed to work for LTC timecode input in MovieSlate:

  • Apple USB-C to 3.5mm Headphone Jack Adapter — the most reliable choice
  • Rode SC4 — 3.5mm TRS to TRRS Microphone Cable Adaptor
  • Movo MC3 — 3.5mm TRS to TRRS Adapter

For a current list of recommended timecode cables and adapters, see the Timecode Cables page on movie-slate.com.
Important: You still need an LTC timecode cable with the correct TRRS connector (not TRS) for the 3.5mm end that plugs into the adapter. The adapter alone is not enough — the cable must have the fourth ring that enables microphone input on iOS devices.
