I still use MovieSlate 7 and just bought an Atomos UltraSync Blue. Can I jam sync MovieSlate 7 from it over Bluetooth, or do I need MovieSlate 8?No — wireless Bluetooth timecode sync is a MovieSlate 8 feature. MovieSlate 7 dates from 2015 and predates the Bluetooth LE timecode integrations, so it cannot connect to an UltraSync Blue or any other BLE timecode device. MovieSlate 7's timecode options are limited to wired LTC in and out. Bluetooth devices supported in MovieSlate 8
These manufacturers license their Bluetooth SDKs to third-party developers, which is what makes wireless sync possible. Other makers — Deity, for example — restrict their Bluetooth protocol to their own app, so those devices can only be used with MovieSlate over a wired LTC connection. Moving to MovieSlate 8MovieSlate 8 is a separate App Store purchase, not a free update to MovieSlate 7; Apple has never offered a paid-upgrade mechanism for apps. Wireless timecode sync is part of MovieSlate's Pro Features. See MovieSlate Pro Features for what's included. Note that MovieSlate 8 requires iPadOS/iOS 17 or later, and that recent iOS releases require MFi-compliant cables and adapters for wired LTC input — see the Timecode Cables page before reusing an older cable. |
