Frequently Asked Question
Posted 06/27/2026
I need a substitute to cover for me. How do I get my projects and data over to another script supervisor's device?
You have two good options, and both rely on MovieSlate Cloud. Make sure your substitute has already set up a MovieSlate Cloud account in advance so you're not coordinating under a time crunch. A practical approach: finish logging the day before, create a backup, and then use Send Shared Data to hand off your projects. If they run into any trouble, fall back to sharing the full backup. Sharing a backup (everything, including settings): - Go to Settings > MovieSlate Cloud and tap Groups.
- Tap the + button to add a new group, give it a name, and enter the email your substitute used to register their MovieSlate Cloud account. Tap Add, then Done.
- Tap the Backup button and select the group you just created. This creates the shared backup.
- Once your substitute accepts the group invitation they receive by email, they can restore it from Settings > MovieSlate Cloud.
Send Shared Data (choose specific projects):- Tap Send Shared Data and choose the project you want to share.
- Choose MovieSlate Cloud (or AirDrop if you're both on set and on the same Wi-Fi).
- Enter the substitute's MovieSlate Cloud email address and tap Share. MovieSlate packages the project and uploads it.
- Your substitute receives an email with a Share Code. They open Settings > MovieSlate Cloud, tap Receive in the Shared Data section, and enter the share code.
The difference: Backup/Restore transfers all of your data and settings, while Send Shared Data lets you share on a project-by-project basis. |
