Frequently Asked Question
Posted 06/24/2026
Can a script supervisor use just the shot-notes/logging features and turn around an ALE/XML report without using MovieSlate's clapperboard slate — for example on a production that uses a traditional analog slate?
Yes — in fact that's the most common Script Dept workflow. The Script Dept features (logging shots, lining the script, generating ALE/XML and other reports) don't require MovieSlate's on-screen clapperboard at all. Most script supervisors log and line the script while the camera department uses a traditional analog slate. You don't need to touch the slate feature to produce your logs and reports. If you ever do want a MovieSlate clapper on set as well, you can run a separate device as the slate and feed it the shot data from the Script Dept device. That setup uses on-set/local Wi-Fi so the Script Dept logger can send slate data to the second MovieSlate — but it's entirely optional. |
