Frequently Asked Questions

We know you have them, here are answers to the common ones.

Frequently Asked Question Posted 06/24/2026

Can I use MovieSlate in places without internet access? Does it need to be online to log my work?

No internet is required for your core logging work. MovieSlate stores your logged data locally on the device, so you can log shots, line the script, and build reports completely offline — perfect for remote locations and sets with no connectivity.
A network is only involved for a few specific things:

  • MovieSlate Cloud backup, restore, and sharing need internet access.
  • Device-to-device sync (e.g. two iPads syncing in Script Dept, or sending slate data to a second device) needs the devices to be on the same local Wi-Fi network, but that connection does not require internet access.

So you can work entirely offline and simply back up to MovieSlate Cloud later when you're back online.
