Frequently Asked Question
Posted 06/10/2026
While setting up my workspace I had to enable 'Increment Slate Numbers.' What does that setting actually mean, and do I need it?
The Slate field tracks the total, running number of takes — counting continuously from your very first take to your last — rather than resetting per scene or setup. When Increment Slate Numbers is enabled, that running slate count advances automatically as you log takes. Tracking takes by a single running slate number is a method used mainly in some European productions. Script Dept does not use the slate field for the reports it generates, so if you're working as a script supervisor you can safely leave this setting disabled. You'll find the related auto-increment options under Settings > Behavior > Shot Behavior, where you can control whether slate numbers, take numbers, and filenames increment when shots end. |
