Frequently Asked Question
Posted 06/05/2026
I upgraded to a new iPad but when I signed in, my projects and history weren't there. How do I get my data from my old iPad onto the new one?
MovieSlate stores data locally on each device, so your projects don't automatically appear on a new iPad when you sign in. You need to transfer them using MovieSlate Cloud. Here's how: Simple transfer (no data on the new iPad to keep)- On your old iPad, go to Settings > MovieSlate Cloud and tap Backup to back up your data.
- On your new iPad, sign into your MovieSlate Cloud account at Settings > MovieSlate Cloud.
- Tap Restore, select the backup you just made, and wait for it to complete. This may take several minutes if upgrading from an older version (e.g., v7.9 to v8.x), as MovieSlate updates the database structure.
Merging data from both iPads If you've already started logging on your new iPad and want to keep that data alongside your older projects:- First, complete the simple transfer steps above so your old data is on the new iPad.
- On the new iPad, go to Settings > MovieSlate Cloud and tap Send in the Send Shared Data section. Select the old projects you want to merge in, then tap MovieSlate Cloud (not AirDrop).
- Enter your MovieSlate Cloud email and tap Share. Write down the 7-character Share Code that appears, then tap OK.
- Tap Restore and restore the backup containing your new iPad's data to return it to the device.
- Tap Receive in the Receive Shared Data section. Enter your Share Code and tap Download.
- On the Receive menu, tap Merge. Uncheck Settings to keep your new iPad's settings, then tap Import. MovieSlate will merge both datasets together.
After the merge you should see all projects from both iPads side by side. |
