Frequently Asked Question Posted 06/05/2026

I shared my lined script with another user and they can't see my coverage lines, even though I can see them on my copy. How do I make my markup visible to others — and how do I change existing annotations between public and private?

In MovieSlate's Script Dept, annotations (coverage lines, ink marks, etc.) have a Public or Private status. Private annotations are visible only on your device and are hidden when you export or share the script PDF. If a collaborator can't see your lines, the markup is likely set to Private.
To change existing annotations to Public:

  1. Open the script PDF in Script Dept and navigate to the page with the markup you want to change.
  2. Display the annotation toolbar, then tap the Select tool (the dashed-outline box icon).
  3. Use the Select tool to draw a selection box around the annotations you want to change.
  4. With the annotations selected, tap the Public/Private button on the toolbar, then choose Public from the menu.

To include private annotations in an exported Script PDF:
When generating a Script PDF report, you will see export options — one of those options is Include Private Annotations. Turning this on will include your private markup in the exported PDF for that report run.
Going forward, when you draw new annotations you can tap the Public/Private toggle in the toolbar before drawing to set the default for new marks.
