I'd like to use my UltraSync Blue together with MovieSlate's Music Video feature, so the app sends its timecode to the UltraSync Blue instead of via the device's audio output. Is that possible?
Not directly. There are two separate limitations at play: Music Video mode resets the timecode each take. In Music Video mode, MovieSlate uses the running time of the song track as its timecode, so at the end of each take the timecode resets back to the currently set start point. It is not a continuous, free-running timecode. UltraSync Blue won't accept timecode from third-party apps. The UltraSync Blue only allows Timecode Systems / Atomos apps to set or reset its timecode — third-party apps like MovieSlate cannot drive it. The same is true of the Tentacle SYNC E and TRACK E: they don't allow third-party apps to modify their timecode, and while they have a 3.5mm jack that can take LTC, that is jam-sync only — there is no continuous timecode feed in. Workaround. For this kind of workflow, the practical setup is to use two UltraSync One units: one jam-syncing to MovieSlate's timecode from the audio output of your iOS device, and a second feeding LTC to the camera. |
